For the second consecutive year, MARFRET participates in the International Fair of Bogota which is one of the most important industrial events in Latin America.
We are thus given an opportunity to meet our customers and to reaffirm our commitment to be present in this fast growing country.
Covering an area of 1 141 748 km² (twice that of France), Colombia enjoys a privileged location. With two oceanic facades (Atlantic in the north, Pacific in the west) and access to the Amazon River, it shares borders with Panama, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil.
The mountainous Andean region is the economic and political center of the country. It houses nearly 80% of the population concentrated in three main cities: Bogota, Cali and Medellin. .
Despite the obvious problems of infrastructure and internal circulation, Colombia has experienced a 6% growth for the second consecutive year in 2007. The improvement of security conditions in the country, although much remains to be done, has helped restore investors´ confidence.
With two of its lines calling Colombia (CES from Northern Europe and MedCar from the Mediterranean), MARFRET enjoys a very good image locally.
We are No. 1 for export from Colombia to the Mediterranean where we transport mainly ferronickel, coffee, hides, canned fish and petrol resins to Spain and Italy.
In order to continue our efforts of representation in this country, we have decided to create MARFRET COLOMBIA who will be in charge of commercial pursuits locally but also regionally with the objective of opening new inter-Caribbean services.
