THE FIVE COMMITMENTS OF THE FRENCH SHIPOWNERS

Blue Charter

MARFRET, AS SIGNATORY OF THE BLUE CHARTER, UNDERTAKES TO :

1 – FOREVER IMPROVE THE SAFETY AND THE QUALITY OF SHIPS

  • Maintain the French flag’s position at the highest level of the Memorandum of Paris ratings.
  • Further enhance the policy of modernisation and maintenance of the fleet.
  • Enforce the strict application of International and European regulations related to maritime safety.
  • Co-operate with the Authorities to ensure safe maritime transportation.

2 – PROTECT THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT AND COASTLINE

  • Prevent all forms of pollution by oil and toxic products.
  • Reduce NOx and SOx emissions to preserve the ozone layer.
  • Control refuses, water ballast end waste disposals.
  • Prevent and prohibit unauthorized disposals at sea.

3 – GUARANTEE GOOD LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS FOR CREW

  • Recruit ocean-going personnel in strict conformity with the International regulations in force and further their qualifications within the Company.
  • Maintain superior payment conditions and standards of employment to those prescribed by the I.L.O. (International Labour Organisation).
  • Encourage the use of a common language well understood by the crew.
  • Ensure proper control to ships’ access.

4 – MANAGE THE COMPANY WIITH TRANSPARENCY AND ETHICS

  • Clear identification of the Owner or Manager of a vessel.
  • Select professional partners that adhere to the Blue Charter criteria.
  • Implement as a priority the rules and regulations relating to safety into Company management pocedures (controls, correction of non-conformities).
  • Within each Company, ensure necessary human and material resources to attain the required level of safety and protection of the environment.

5 – ASSERT SOLIDARITY WITH THE MARITIME COMMUNITY

  • The maritime community groups together with the coastal population all those whose activities are linked to the sea; this community shares values that create strong ties of solidarity.
  • French Shipowners are commited to supporting the members of this community, in particular with respect to a maritime incident, through the International regulations and with the means so defined.
